Companies and shopping centers or malls turned out to be the largest contributor to energy waste electricity in Indonesia. Even a major mall in Jakarta could spend the equivalent electricity needs of two districts in Java. ”A lot of big malls are not yet aware of the importance of saving energy,” said Head of Energy Efficiency in Industry, Commercial and Public Sector, Melany Tedja, Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

Energy Efficiency in Industry Commercial and Public Sector is a program of cooperation between the Governments of Indonesia and Denmark in the problem of energy saving.

Data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources shows that the largest energy user is the corporate sector which reached 51.86 percent. Then the transport sector 30.77 percent, followed by 13.08 per cent of the household sector, and other commercial sectors by 4.28 percent.

From the industrial sector there are at least 600 companies that consume up to 40 percent of total national electricity needs. ”Every company in the electrical energy consumption over six thousand tons of oil equivalent or equal to six thousand tons of barrels of oil,” says Melany.

According to Melany, Indonesia has targeted a reduction of electrical energy up to 33 percent in 2025. The reduction was performed with the efficiency of electrical appliances.”No reduction in power tools, but to streamline the existing electrical equipment,” he said.

Through the program efficiency, Melany optimistic the government’s target to save up to 33 percent in 2025 could be exceeded. He gave an example in the Indonesian textile industry is more wasteful than tripled similar industries in India.

Vice Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Indonesia East Java, Nelson Sembiring, explained the purpose of energy efficiency is to encourage the implementation of industrial efficiency, especially in the commercial sector or public sector. ”People also need to start saving, the 100 watt incandescent lamp, for example can be replaced with an LED which is equivalent to 5 watts,” he said.

Saving energy can also be done with little things. E.g. unused electricity plugs and allowed to remain stuck it also has the potential for energy waste. ”If we count, an office orderly unplug your power could save up to Rp 6 million per year.”
